m31andy: (Knit-Kill)

Here it comes - the Big Gay Afghan!

Well, I did say that I was making the big gay afghan and that I would share pictures. Well, yes. It's taken a while, but here some are. I apologise for the quality, I'm both crap at taking photos and also terrible at remembering to have my good camera on me. These, therefore, were taken with my camera phone in not very good light.

As you can see, the meerkats got involved. Traditionally, knitted and crocheted items are modelled on the owner's cat (for some reason all knitters and crocheters seem to own cats, have owned cats or will own cats in the future. I have no idea why that is.)

Well, anyway. C's cat (see?) seems to be a little concerned about the Big Gay Afghan. Personally, I think that Turing's just unsure of what to make of something that's actually fluffier than he is.

The meerkats (obviously) have no problems with such fluffiness. It's better for Guv's knees and also for Gladys' invisible genitalia. (Next time, he gets to mop up the treacle himself...)

The BGA is not quite done - there's another three stripes to do, but as those stripes are approximately 75m long (and an inch and a half thick), it's going to take me a while to finish. *sigh*

It's really very lovely in a somewhat psychedelic sort of way. *g*

90% of the women I work with knit and have cats... I'm developing a theory that you're all a cult or a new millennia version of the Stepford Wives. *cocks eyebrow in suspicious fashion*

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin*

It's even more psychedelic in real life. The 'kats have been known to trip out, gazing at the pattern!

If it's a cult, it's one I've not actually signed up to. It's all pervasive instead. One minute you're normal, next you're surrounded by cats and seem to have grown bone extensions to your hands which spout yarn creations out of them (sort of like Spiderman, but more Martha Stewart than Peter Parker...)

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)

Less spandex more socks, scarves, jumpers, woolly hats, menstrual cup covers...

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
and don't forget the doilies, tablecloths and counterpanes...

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)

This is getting to be a *really* interesting outfit...

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you had me at "menstrual cup covers".

(Incidentally, the Other Evil TwinTM sent C and I a couple of her creations - C has a vampire bat. I have a Flying Spaghetti Monster. They are both very, very cool!)

Oh, you had me at "menstrual cup covers". This would have been a very different film... undoubtedly a much better film.

Oooh could I get one of Alexei, son of Nicholas II? Erm... I'll get my coat...

[identity profile] silverhawkdruid.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooh, who's a Bodie and Doyle fan then? *g*

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)

I'm assuming that you're talking about Andy... *g*

Oh, and the second one is Chauvelin from The Scarlet Pimpernel.

[identity profile] duckyone.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That looks a lot like a screencap from a 1970's meerkat porn flick.

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm slightly disturbed that you know what a 1970's meerkat porn flick looks like...

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)

*ponders what "wah wah" banjo would sound like*

[identity profile] clanwilliam.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Duelling Banjos, surely?

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)

Good option but I was thinking of the wah wah guitar soundtracks on 70s porn.

[identity profile] clanwilliam.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
So was I! Surely that's what "wah wah" sounds like when transposed for banjo?

*ducks and runs*

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)

Now all I can hear in my head is Hayseed Dixie and this:

You better run. *g*

[identity profile] jantalaimon.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Psssh. At least you didn't bring out the Hayseed Dixie cover of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love," which I believe suits the 'kats rather well...*whistles*

[identity profile] troubleagain.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I should send you my eyelash stash.

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Or, even better, you could make your own!!!

*g*

(I'm making cushion covers next, they shouldn't take as long... Hopefully!)

Oh, God, no! Yeck. Yours is cute, but I hates the eyelash, yes, I does!

[identity profile] jamie28.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
lol! big, gay afgan! i love it!

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin*

Every home should have one...

(And I know this is terribly clichéd, but I did just type "Homo" there. Trufax. You know, I can't be homophobic - my fiancée is a lesbian... *cough*)

[identity profile] jamie28.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
i'm a happily married straight guy, but i can't see what a person's sexual orientation has to do with anything. it's a silly thing to judge someone by.

[identity profile] coffeeem.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn, that looks so soft and fluffy I want to cuddle the photos. When it feels so right, it can't be wrong!

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is so soft and fluffy! Though it is wise to look for unexpected meerkat toys, cats, hooks, additional yarn projects and the occasional fiancée before diving on to it.

[identity profile] sillymouse.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
This knitter doesn't have a cat. Yet.

On the other hand, I do have a baby, who demands very loudly to be fed nownownow 57 times a day, so quite cat-like really. Although I think I'm onto a loser with the litter tray idea.

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Baby? (S)He's arrived? Fantastic! Congratulations - where, when, details etc!!!

[identity profile] sillymouse.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She, 10 days ago today, 8 lb 5 oz and exceptionally lengthy then, already growing out of my favourite babygros (same day as the Rooney infant, actually. I am not yet going to Beyonce concerts in high heels, I am thinking it a big adventure to go and buy the papers, and being very very grateful it's November so I can wear a hat all the time and no-one has to see my hair). Fortunately I can type one-handed, albeit slowly.

And the only time I ever knitted with that fuzzy stuff, I was making gnome beards, which sounds filthy even before they turned out to be bikini-sized triangles, which had to be modelled by everyone in the house.

[identity profile] jellopony.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"As you can see, the meerkats got involved. Traditionally, knitted and crocheted items are modelled on the owner's cat (for some reason all knitters and crocheters seem to own cats, have owned cats or will own cats in the future. I have no idea why that is.)"

Cause we all love yarn. ;)
Of course, I give you mad props on working with the eyelash stuff. I tried it once and vowed never again.

[identity profile] f1ymetothemoon.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I wanna roll around in that.

[identity profile] silverhawkdruid.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Have to say I tried using eyelash wool once, and vowed never again! :-) I like the look of what you've made, but I hate the feel of the wool myself *shivers*

[identity profile] jantalaimon.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I knit and have a rabbit. Ha!

That is properly dizzyingly lovely. The afghan isn't bad, either. ;)

[identity profile] m31andy.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
And I bet moo would love the afghan, what do you think?!!!
