...and we all know what that means!

It's the Great British Beer Festival! YAY!!!

Myself and [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen will be there tonight, propping up one of the bars, at least. If anyone else will be there tonight, give a 'yo' in the comments and I'll look out for you!

Great British Beer Festival Tasting Notes - 2009

Previous Years are here: 2000/2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.

Okay, I've been shockingly bad this year with getting the notes out – it's taken 51 weeks. So, belated thanks to last year's co-conspirators: [livejournal.com profile] clanwilliam, [livejournal.com profile] gmh, [livejournal.com profile] hano, Rob, Ed and David. Oh and the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen, without which any beer festival would not be complete.

But without further ado to the stars of the show, the beers.

Well, it's one week to go until the 2010 festival! Place your bets now on how quickly I'll get that write-up done!!!

Not doing too bad again, this year. The festival hasn't even finished yet and here is my list for 2008. Many thanks to the co-conspirators this year: [livejournal.com profile] darthfi on the Tuesday and [livejournal.com profile] gmh, Bob, [livejournal.com profile] rjw1, [livejournal.com profile] aca, [livejournal.com profile] nou, [livejournal.com profile] gaspodog, David and sundry others on the Thursday. Much fun was had and much beer was drunk. Speaking of which…

Ah, much better. The beer festival has been over three days and here is my review. Not bad eh? Thanks as usual for those who kept me propped up: [livejournal.com profile] clanwilliam and [livejournal.com profile] gmh (and friends) on the Tuesday and [livejournal.com profile] sethur, [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen and [livejournal.com profile] ciya on the Friday night. Though, yes. Next year we're definitely going to eschew Friday night and do an afternoon instead.

Well, not only have I (just) got up 2006, as promised I found the prior years. So here, for posperity*, are my 2000 and 2001 festival records.

I think I really ought to get the 2006 notes out a lot quicker!!! As usual, official tasting notes are in italics. Thanks go to my work colleagues who joined me on the Thursday night and to [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen and [livejournal.com profile] quirkus who also came along. My little sis was my partner in crime on the Friday, where we didn't get so much reviewed as we were too busy trying the best of Thursday and the wonderful mead on sale!

Well, beer festival was fun. Drank far too much beer. Met up with [livejournal.com profile] cowfishbilly and other old college mates. I, of course, had agreed to meet with [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen at 2pm anyway. Steve turned up (lj journal to follow, he assures!!!) and then Ralphie from work turned up. It was very strange at times, three worlds colliding! Cuvalwen and Steve came back to mine afterwards for pizza and "The Wicker Man". A good night had by all, I reckon.

Anyway. tasting notes )

I was having regrets at not getting through more of the beers. Now I have looked through these, and added in the one I never found out what it was, the second half of banana bread I had, the one Steve bought me and the finishing of Adams pint of banana bread that he didn't like (did I mention that I liked that beer????) I think I would have had to be carried back if I had drunk any more!

Oh, and I better mention the:
Scottish Courage, Imperial Stout 10.0%. No tasting notes for this, it just mentions the fact it is rare in cask. There is a reason for this! It is absolutely gorgeous - a think black liquid which is almost chewable. It has the taste of burnt chocolate and whiskey. You can't drink much though. I restricted myself to three mouthfuls from someone else's half. And I'm dead proud of myself there!
