Not dead, but the internet connection is. I've had to make a trip in order to ensure my Pros Big Bang fic was posted on the correct day!

But yes, it's finished and it's up. Blimey. Didn't think I was going to make it, to be honest. But hurrah! Definitely deserves a drink...

Holiday is going well. Though C and I were writing an iterinery of things to do for the fortnight and it's all gone! We're planning on visiting the Chelsea Physic Garden, the London Dungeon, The Clink, London Zoo, St Thomas' Operating Theatre, The Tower of London, Camden Town (mainly for dim sum, apparently) and we're going to go on an open-topped tourist bus. Woo!

Anyway, link to fic is here, in case you fancy reading it: Any Other World

A cold is apparently a brilliant excuse for getting stuff done that you haven't had time to do already. In other words, I've finished delicious-tagging the Professionals [livejournal.com profile] crack_van entries. They are here.

What you can do, oh wonderful friendslist, is drop me a line if any of them are missing tags, are mis-tagged or if you've got any fantastic ideas for other tags, if and when you use the list. When I'm happy they're pretty well set up, I'll mention them on the [livejournal.com profile] teaandswissroll comm. (Let me know if there's a n other comm I should mention the resource in.)

I'll continue adding new entries to the list when new stories are recced (I tend to keep a close eye on the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van comm) and if/when I get bored/move out of the fandom/die/finally get sectioned under section five of the mental health act 1983, I'll make sure I pass it on so it's a continuing resource for all you good folk who rec.

Professionals Crack Van Delicious Tags

With many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mikes_grrl for giving me the idea in the first place.

Because I have a stinking cold and am tired and crabby. Be nice to me...

the that's my favourite! meme
A FANFICTION PRAISE MEME

In other news, my fabulous beta has turned around my big bang fic in less than twenty-four hours. Some stuff to do, but I'm feeling a lot more confident about it now! Still need to write the epilogue though...

I'm still delicious tagging the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van Pros Recs (No, I've not forgotten about them!) 156 down, 50 to go. *sigh* I should get them done before it's my turn to drive the LoM Cortina next month. I hope.

C is being a complete stalwart and bringing me tea, even though she's not feeling too good either. I love you, honey.
m31andy: (Evil!Chris)
So, for once, I know where a meme actually started! From [livejournal.com profile] draycevixen who thought it would be more interesting to list all the situations the lads are stuck in due to a case of rather serious writer's block.

My WIP folder seems to be quite large )

I'm slightly disturbed by some of the pairings on this list - my OTPs are very thin on the ground there. (That possibly explains why they're all still WIPS!
m31andy: (Doyle - Neikirk)
You have *no* idea how nervous I am, posting this up. This is part one of three, which is almost the same length as the longest thing I'd previously written. Eep! What if I'm crap at writing plot? Or terrible at keeping plot holes out of it?!

*panics*

But, I need to get this out, out off my hard drive, else I'm never going to finish the [livejournal.com profile] ci5_boxoftricks challenge. So here it is.

The fic, it is done.

If anyone actually fancies reading a Professionals / Twilight crossover, written by two-thirds of the PsychoSamatic Cycle team, then it's here:

Beyond Light.

We're now off for a well-deserved sherry and a spot of Christmas Pud.
m31andy: (sparkly!Doyle)
Oh, help me, my friendslist. I've got a fic due on Boxing Day for the [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj annual Christmas Challenge and I'm vacillating on what to write. Which means, of course, the deadline is looming closer with nary a letter written. So, please. Help me decide what to put out there.

[Poll #1501762]

You're all wonderful!
m31andy: (Ultraviolet)
It is not a good idea to start thinking about how to manipulate time and space just so you can write Simm!Character/Davenport!Character slash. No matter how much you think Sam Tyler would 'deserve' Michael Colefield. (and vice versa...)

This goes doubly when you're also secretly thinking "what's the worst thing I can think of to do to Sam?"

(With many 'thanks' to [livejournal.com profile] mousedemon for setting me on this path of utter insanity. I'll get back to the pros fic of doom now, shall I? (I'm pretty sure the supernatural verson of CI5 has been done, right?))
m31andy: (Cartoon Andy)
Having read through the Pros fic of doom yet again, I'm struck that I need more than one beta reader. [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen has already done a sterling job on ideas for me, and she can easily do the "in-character" and grammar bits of the beta's job. BUT, she knows the entire story and, I think, I need a fresh view of whether everything is neatly explained and fits.

So, my begging question to you all is: is anyone willing to read through the pros fic of doom (all 31,000 angsty words of it) and tell me what is confusing or whether there are unanswered questions. Is it unbelievable, reliant on too many coincidences? Are there not enough hooks to suspend one's belief off, in other words???

Pretty please?

Alternatively, is there anywhere on teh intarwebs, where I can ask this question of Pros fen who are happy to respond to beta requests?

Thank you all so much!

m31andy: (Zombie!Sam)
So [livejournal.com profile] zombie_fest, which you may have seen pimped on your friendslist in the last couple of days, has now opened its doors for prompts and fic/art/vid. Almost a month of multifandom zombies!

If any of you good folk want to play along, hie along to here, post-haste. There's only 28 days left!

Also, if you post any LoM fic, either post a link over at [livejournal.com profile] zomromcomlomcom so I can pick it up in the Zom-Rom-Com-LoM-Comm Zombie Masterlist or drop me a line.

([livejournal.com profile] draycevixen, [livejournal.com profile] saintvic, [livejournal.com profile] mikes_grrl - has this been mentioned over at [livejournal.com profile] teaandswissroll? Or are we likely to get even more shot if we introduce zombie!Bodie as the perfect foil for elf!Doyle???)
m31andy: (Accounting Troll)
Favourite moment of the day so far* - using the phrase "accountant-cum-hitman" in a fic.

Now I want to use it in a work context. But unfortunately the boss is off until next week. Can I wait that long?

Okay, question for y'alls. What do you think an accountant's preferred method of homicide be? (Note: answering 'boring people to death' is not acceptable. I'll be using *my* preferred method on anyone who suggests such a thing.)

* Well, I'm meeting [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen later. I'm sure it'll move down the list...
m31andy: (cute!Sam)
Meme nicked from [livejournal.com profile] draycevixen (and, through her, [livejournal.com profile] fawsley):

List the first lines of your last 20 stories. See if you find any patterns.

Twenty first lines )

I'm not sure if I can see any patterns in that lot. I seem to either write short, pithy openings or Bulwer-Litton entry grade ramblings. I'm also quite surprised there's so many 'present tense' fics on the list. (And one in first person. Shocking!) It's in reverse order, so you can see the gradual change from Life on Mars to Pros. The rather depressing thing about this little list is that it spans more than a year. Hmm. Definitely slowing down in my old age.

(Though fic is getting longer, I suppose. *eyes Pros Fic of Doom balefully*)

To that end, then. First five prompts gets a ficlet (or possibly more). Y'all know what fandoms I dabble in, so give me one and I'll get creative.

Oh, and in related news, the fourth annual Life on Mars Ficathon is open for sign-ups. Seriously, this is definitely one where 'the more, the merrier' is an apposite phrase. (I've also got a sneaking feeling that there will be more Sam/Sam fics before the end of the ficathon this year as well!!!)

Go, sign up!
m31andy: (Read)
For some reason, my friendslist seems to be overflowing with good fic (or recs of good fic), so here are the ones I've clicked the links on today.

Multifandom Fic Recs )

In other news, I went to Brighton at the weekend (shocker, I know!) I was going to write all about it, but [livejournal.com profile] guvngladys seem to have written much better than I was going to!!!
m31andy: (Default)
Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

  1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

  2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

  3. Favourite episodes/books/movies/etc.?

  4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

  5. Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

From [livejournal.com profile] kelemvor, who gave me:
"Life on Mars"
"Man From U.N.C.L.E."
"The Professionals"

My answers, under the cut. Possible spoilers )Anyone want to play?

In completely other news, pale greenhouse lettuce can make even the best salads look unsavoury, but a couple of days under weak ultraviolet light brings the colour back. One for the gardeners out there, I feel. Although, there *are* two alternatives. 1. Don't get so hung up on your pale lettuce or 2. Grow the things outdoors and eat them in season. Then they get all the ultraviolet radiation they need...

Does anyone know if the coloured water celery trick works for lettuce? That would be cool. Blue lettuce and red celery. cool.
m31andy: (More Tea?)
For that matter, a hell of a lot of each of them!!! Via [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, a rec.

"Luring an angel into bed is one thing; getting them to shut up long enough to do anything once you're there is quite another."
Utterly, utterly brilliant.

In entirely other news, I seem still to be waiting for someone to be bunnied by Cowley/Crowley (the demon)/Crowley (aka Uncle Al) or, for that matter (as I realised yesterday) Cowley (Professionals)/Alexander Waverley (Man from UNCLE)/Colonel K (Dangermouse)

You know, if you want to be nice to me...
m31andy: (Doyle - Leaning)
Way, way back last year we ran an Anonymous Pornfest for Life on Mars over at [livejournal.com profile] fiandyfic. It was great fun, generated a shedload of fic and encouraged at least two new writers (that I know of) to start posting their own fic at the [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973 comm.

Which is all brilliant. And the time is nearly upon us to do another one.

This isn't it.

I thought to myself: 'Well, if we had so much fun with LoM, how about doing on for The Professionals fandom?' and several of you agreed.

So this is it. Enjoy, have fun, and I'll call a halt to the festivities in a few weeks, or when no-one posts any more. All you have to do is anonymously request a fic or anonymously reply to a request with fic. Multiple submissions are encouraged for any request. Don't worry if your favourite prompt has already been answered. The more fic, the merrier!

If you want an example of how we play, last year's Life on Mars Anonymous Pornfest is here. As in the example, I'll be collating responses as we go along.

m31andy: (cute!Sam)
So yesterday was both the gig at the We Make Craft Fair and also the annual Professionals Christmas meet-up. The gig went well enough, and the meet-up was much fun. I finally got to put some faces to names (meeting the most wonderful [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight and also the incredibly cool [livejournal.com profile] erushi). As is turning out to be inevitable, [livejournal.com profile] erushi and I ended up talking to a lovely girl about Life on Mars and promised to write down some recs on my journal for her.

So, especially for [livejournal.com profile] foxcat74, I would love to see your recs for someone who has seen the first series only, but doesn't mind spoilers, is looking for nice, sweet* slash featuring Gene, or, you know, anything else that she might like in that vein. Especially anything on mystical origins of Gene (am a little stumped there). Under the cut is mine and [livejournal.com profile] erushi's first stab at this, but pretty, pretty please add to this if you can.

Here Be Life on Mars Recs )

* Please note, in this context, sweet means no rent-boys, evil!Chris, Stockholm Syndrome, serial killers or character death. There's plenty of time for indoctrination later…
m31andy: (Cartoon Andy)
I've found I've quite a kink for Professionals/The Chief crossovers. Especially where it turns out that Ray Doyle and Alan Cade are the same person. It's especially weird due to the fact I've never seen the Chief and I've no real intention of rectifying that deficiency.

So, anyway, partly for my information, partly for yours, dear friendslist, I've listed all the crossovers between the two shows that I can find. If you know of any more, please, please let me know in the comments. And I shall love you forever.

So one of the reasons why I've been so quiet recently is that I've been making my way through all the Bodie/Doyle fan-fic on The Circuit Archive There's quite a lot of them. But I'm down to the 20k and below fic now, (and I promised [livejournal.com profile] draycevixen faithfully that I would post the list this week) so I feel I can finally recommend some of the better ones I've read in the last six weeks or so.

If there's any you love, let me know in comments and I'll add them to the list and go and read them, if I've not done already.

Of course, the next job is to go through the Gen fic. I suspect it won't take as long though...

The Professionals Fan-Fic Recommendations )
m31andy: (Kissy)
These are for [livejournal.com profile] androctonus, as she had her PC stolen and she lost all her links. I'll see if I can find some more links later.

If anyone else wants to join in, comment with your link below, and I'll add it. Note the categories (SG-1, Harry Potter, Jeeves and Wooster, CSI, Doctor Who - All slash, plus other non-slash and anything else you can think of!)

Here be Fics )
