Because I have a stinking cold and am tired and crabby. Be nice to me...

the that's my favourite! meme
A FANFICTION PRAISE MEME

In other news, my fabulous beta has turned around my big bang fic in less than twenty-four hours. Some stuff to do, but I'm feeling a lot more confident about it now! Still need to write the epilogue though...

I'm still delicious tagging the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van Pros Recs (No, I've not forgotten about them!) 156 down, 50 to go. *sigh* I should get them done before it's my turn to drive the LoM Cortina next month. I hope.

C is being a complete stalwart and bringing me tea, even though she's not feeling too good either. I love you, honey.

I really am sorry that you're so sick still. *dons mask and gloves and hugs you* Yeah, you enjoyed that didn't you? *g*

Just down to an epilogue? That's brilliant as is your crack_van efforts which I for one, deeply appreciate as I'm up in September I think. ♥

Run down, I think. The boss has already had a go at me and I think there's going to be a week's holiday in my near future. I may spend it sleeping...

Well, there's a page of notes from my beta that need incorporating. But nothing too plot-warping or strenuous (I hope!) And it can stand without the epilogue, but hell - there needs to be more whumping!!!

I'll definitely have the tagging done before September. And unless there's nothing but fandom classics in the last fifty, there's plenty old and new still to be recced! (And I know for a start that the last ten or so are crossovers from other fandom rec months, so that's all to the good!!!)

Yikes, I'd assumed you weren't at work somehow with the reference to being brought tea.

I think I'm going to try to rec some of the newer stuff as a lot of the same stories get recced all the time, deservedly so, but anyone digging around in the fandom would stumble across those recs anyway. I'm also thinking about stories that haven't been linked to one of the archives and that might be more difficult to find. Well... I will be thinking about this post-BB. *g* It's brilliant that you're making the list because I know it really helpedwhen reccing for LoM.

Not at work, but am (technically) working. I've had the monthly report to prepare and write today. Three hours (or so) work took about five/six as my brain keeps wandering.

This is what happens when work issues you with the means to work from home!!!

Am pretty much done for the day though now. Just waiting on the boss to action one thing and then I can sign-off. *sigh*

The last rec was Christmas 2008, so there's definitely some fantastic newer fic that have not had a chance to be recced yet! (Plus one or two old classics that hadn't made it on to the web before then.)

As long as the delicious page is useful! I'll have to sic you all onto it when I've done the last rec - see what I'm missing and what could be more useful.

oh, I hope you feel well enough to be writing.

Head cold symptoms very easily turn me off wanting to sit in front of a screen. Not to mention the total woolly headedness and bleary eyes phenomenon.

there's a page of notes from my beta that need incorporating. meep. feels guilt-ridden. It'll be just as enjoyable without 'em, you know.

Hopefully will do some writing tonight. Have got a few other things to clear first though. *sigh* I always end up doing too much...

And no problems. Thank you so much for your comments, it's fantastically helpful. I'll work through them and get back to you if/when I need something clarifying.

Addenbrookes sounds a bit like Grimsby General (now The Princess of Wales Hospital(!)) - it was built on the edge of town in the late seventies/early eighties. Mind you, I can guess there's any number of hospitals across the country which sound the same!!!

Re crack van - Callisto posted a bunch of great recs a while ago but they never made it into the memories
http://tinyurl.com/y8o865

I've no idea what the procedure is to add them, but it would be wonderful if they could be there, and anything in future. It's one of my standard "look here" pages when people as Proslib for recs.

I do hope you'll be feeling better soon!

The [livejournal.com profile] crack_van memories have been disused for a while now - I think they hit their limit. I know I was on the working party to ensure that the new (as it was then) tagging function was applied to every prior fanfic. Therefore you can get the previous recs for a fandom by clicking on the appropriate tag. viz.

What I'm doing at the moment is the same thing that [livejournal.com profile] mikes_grrl did for Life on Mars a while ago. I've set up a delicious account for The Professionals Crack Van Recs, which enables a would-be-reccer to check through to make sure that their intended rec has not been done before without all that tedious scrolling. At the moment it's searchable by author, reccer, month, pairing, rating and crossover. I might add more if need be. It's a little more powerful than the tag function alone because of the enhanced searching. Hopefully it will be useful for crack_van reccers!

... Not by title? Sometimes the title is all I remember although of course I could look up the title, get the author and then check it against the list, ignore me. *g*

Tags are really there to group things - you'd expect more than one entry under each tag. However, you can search the tags and you can list them alphabetically and find the rec (or not) that way.

I had a bit of a d'oh moment right after I'd typed this, sorry. *g* I've had so much caffeine and sugar the old braincells aren't firing properly.

Oh, that's neat!

I'll add the account URL to my list of recs.

Great work!

Would you like me to send an announcement to Proslib, mentioning that future reccers would be very welcome? It might possibly flush out a few who aren't currently following LJ.

If so, would you send me the sign-up details to include (or whatever's appropriate) please?

Pardon me for interrupting. Having got approved for permanent reccing status again we'll start in September, one poster per month. Right now we have seven signed up I think so allowing for the fact that crack_van is given over to one-off vans in December we have enough drivers through next April so I don't know if you'd want to post about it now or wait a few months.

When the reccing starts in September I'll make another post about it, urging people to sign-up and of course mentioning Andy's lovely and very useful delicious list as the crack_van asks that you don't repeat the same recs if you can help it.

Of course any Pros fan is welcome to sign-up to drive and please do spread the word, but they would probably want to know that to do so they would have to have a livejournal account *and* become a member of [livejournal.com profile] crack_van in order to drive.

sign-up sheet is here.

ETA: Hmmm... Every rec I've seen on crack_van was for stories available online but I'm not sure if that's an actual requirement or just standard practice. Andy might know. I've driven the van a couple of times but for Life on Mars and all of that fandom's fiction is online so I'm just not sure.
