Oh god. I really am going to write this, aren't I?

It works really well, actually. Top Gear started in 1972 as a Road Safety programme. With Angela Rippon. The Hamster was born in 1969 and that is the estimated year of birth for Sam.

I'm so going to hell.

ETA: Actually, I got my dates wrong. Top Gear started in 1977. However, That's Life did start in 1973, which was involved in the wearing of seat-belts. Ooooh. No. Hammond as one of Esther's Nancies. This is getting scary.

Can you imagine, there he is - sitting completely bemused on set when he starts hearing beeping noises. Then he hears a voice:

"Oh come on Richard, just because James and I weren't there to see your record attempt doesn't mean that you have to sulk *all* day."

See I've never seen "life on Mars" so when I read that and the reference to sam, I had this whole "quantum leap" scenario going on.

Quantum Leap Spoken Intro:

"Theorizing that one could time-travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Richard (the hamster) Hammond led an elite group of scientists into Yorkshire, to develop a top-secret project known as Quantum Leap. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Dr. Hammond prematurely stepped into the project accelerator, and vanished...
