m31andy: (Knit-Kill)
[personal profile] m31andy
Well, if you've seen me in the last couple of months, chances are I've had one of these on the needles. All were, surprisingly, finished in time to give to the recipients for Christmas, although they were not necessarily finished in a timely fashion...

Please note, there are pics under the cut and all links go to my Ravelry page, just in case you have a ravelry account (but you're only missing technical details if you don't...)

Becca's Lace-Up Gloves

The lovely Becca, barmaid extraordinaire at our local watering hole, wished for pink gloves after seeing Karl's gauntlets (below). So I obliged by being inspired by Ysolda Lace-Up Opera Gloves, but knitting them in DK yarn on smaller needles. Suffice to say, Becca was fairly chuffed with these!

Penny's Hat

Penny, head chef at the local, asked for a blue and green bobble hat. Well, after spending hours trying to find either a blue and green yarn or yarn where both the blue and green are actually nice (and go together), I finally found a couple of balls of Rowan's Tapestry. It's beautifully soft (being a wool and soy-bean blend) and lovely to knit up, so I thought I'd use that. [livejournal.com profile] cuvalwen had found the pattern, Jesse Fitzgerald Hat for her flat-mates Christmas present, so I shamelessly borrowed the idea. C made the bobble. I think we can all agree that it's masterfully done!

Karl's Gauntlets

Ah, Karl asked for some manly gauntlets, to keep him warm when out. They were to be baggy enough to go over a thin top, but tight enough that they didn't let in the chill air. Easy - two-by-two ribbing is your friend. For a little bit of variety I hooked out an old but lovely cable pattern and made it a feature as a stripe down the top of each glove.

Patsy's Sweater

Patsy's a regular at one of [livejournal.com profile] darthfi and I's regular haunts. He's a lovely chap who's always kind, generous and highly sarcastic, so we thought he deserved pressie. I found some lovely, cheap, aran back in Grimsby and so the sweater project was born. It's a commercial pattern, not my own, but it knit up well. He was chuffed and reckoned I'd missed my true vocation as an undertaker. Why, you may ask? One glance, perfect fit. (It's a joke, let me know if you don't know it and I'll relate...)

There are one or two more to be posted, but the recipients haven't seen them yet, so I'll wait until they have before sharing - else it will spoil the surprise!
